"Just Then" Pictures of Spotswood

These photos are  postcards  marked as being made in Germany. The dates provided are the postmarked date. The people to whom they were addressed were listed simply by name and town. Most were addressed to "Oldbridge". Spotswood's history must be remembered, cherished and preserved in more than our street names. We must endeavor to protect the historic homes that remain; so many have been torn down.  This progress (?)  exacts a huge price; the loss of the historical buildings that connect us to our past. Our memorabilia, personal and documented histories need a permanent place to reside; to be showcased, explored and revered.

The Vliet Hotel, later known as the Spotswood Hotel, (pictured at the right) was located on Main Street, on the south-bound side, just before Manalapan Road. The house at the right, across the street is the Rectory of St. Peter's Church; changed but still standing.
